In the year 1969 a transformer manufacturing unit located at Narayanpur near Kolkata airport PIN 700136 was formed.  At present it has capacity to manufacture Power, Distribution and Special-purpose transformers from smallest size of 10 kVA to 15000 kVA at 33 kV and Neutral Earthing transformer upto 1550 A for 132 kV Sub-Station.

Since then EASTERN TRANSFORMER & EQUIPMENT (P) LTD. (ETEPL) for more than 5 decades has provided vital inputs to Rural Electrification Projects of Government of India supplying transformers to most Electricity Boards throughout India from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Arunachal Pradesh to Goa keeping pace with the change in Transformer Specifications presently Energy Efficient Transformers published by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in conformity with IEC and British Standards.

ETEPL has developed FRUGAL TRANSFORMERS mainly pole mounted single phase transformers as in Japan, USA and Scandinavian Counties for distant-located revenue-shy electrification project.

ETEPL has successfully overcome the transition period during the eighties for changing copper wound transformers to aluminium wound upto 315 kVA capacity with about 2 years innovation and development work resulting in less than 0.2% failure during the first ten years supply to the utilities.

With incessant quest for development ETEPL a member of International Standard Organisation ISO 9001-2015 has successfully completed Impulse and Short Circuit Test on 10000 kVA, 33000/11000 volts Power Transformer at Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) Bhopal, a milestone for MSME Unit.
